Buzz About Doughnuts and Art 2.0

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Doughnuts and Art is this weekend! It’s going to be the biggest art event of the year. Here is a short list of some of the buzz that going around Pittsburgh about the event.

Matt from Echoflip.com says:
MORE Artists, MORE Bands, MORE Dancing, MORE doughnuts than the original. All cram-packed into one monumental event with the low low price of $2.

Bethany of the McKnight Journal says:
Doughnuts and Art 2.0, or DNA 2.0, is the encore performance of a successful art and music show held in April. The event attracted 300 people to the Creative Treehouse in Bellevue, and Gondek says it was “beyond our expectations.”

MrBaconpants.com says:
The part of the show that I am most excited about is Ape Fight and Pfunkt. These two bands are so much fun to watch.

I hope to see a lot of people at this event. As you can see form that talk about it, its going to be something you’re not going to want to miss.

Doughnuts and Art 2.0

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Doughnuts and Art (DNA) is a three part art exhibit showcasing local artists, bands, and DJs. This is the second time Matt Gondek and I are doing this show. The first one was a big hit and this time is going to be no exception.

If you go to DoughnutsandArt.com you can view the list of artists and bands that are going to be at the event. The part of the show that I am most excited about is Ape Fight and Pfunkt. These two bands are so much fun to watch.

If you are not sure who Ape Fight is they are a Punk/Rock band from New Jersey that is starting to get national attention. Their music was featured in the movie Accepted and recently played on the Howard Stern Channel on Sirius Satellite Radio. Just check out their website and you should fall in love with them.

DNA is a punk rock art show and is not meant to be a family friendly event. So we ask that all guests are at least 18 years old. Also, we are not selling alcohol, this event is BYOB. We will be checking ID’s at the door. If you are under 21 or do not have an ID, you will not be drinking. We will be giving wristbands to those above 21.

Capture Pittsburgh @ the Creative Treehouse

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Last Saturday I attended an event at the Creative Treehouse called Capture Pittsburgh. It was a photography show that only featured pictures of places in and around Pittsburgh. From what I could tell a lot of people were selling work. That seems to be the trend of Treehouse art shows, people come there with the intent to buy.

The event itself was very nice. There was plenty of food and drinks for everyone, and I especially liked the veggie tray. I didn’t stay for the bands, but from what I heard they went over well. The only negative comment about the night was the heat. But I hear the Creative Treehouse is working to correct that.

I was talking to the organizer of the event John Bodnar, and he told me over 150 people showed up. He also informed me that the grape leaves lasted to just about the end. Again I always seem to miss out on the grape leaves; I hear so much about them. Maybe at the next event I will get to try one.

Go to www.creativetreehousepgh.com for more information on upcoming events. The next public event is going to be Doughnuts and Art, August 25th. You can find more details at, DoughnutsandArt.com!

Bellevue is a Winner

Monday, June 4th, 2007

On June 1st at the 2007 Cool Space Awards, Bellevue, the town I live in, won the “You” award. It’s awarded to people that help make cool spaces happen. A lot of the businesses in Bellevue are locally owned and I think that’s what helps make it a “Cool Space”. Some of the businesses I am talking about are 517521, the Creative Treehouse, and Affogato. There are a few other great places in town, but you’re going to have to stop down and see for yourself. I can’t give away all of Bellevue’s secrets.

Sadly, on the Cool Space Locator website there have not been any updates about the event. Luckily, a friend of mine was a volunteer at the event and wrote short post about it. Also, Jesse from the Creative Treehouse was there, so I am sure he will be posting up something soon. Lastly, after doing a quick search on google and found that POP city did a very nice write up; you can check it out here. Come to Bellevue to Shop, Live, and Create.

Pittsburgh has a Treehouse

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

The new shared artist space called “Creative Treehouse” is now accepting members. This is great news for local artists that are looking for a creative space where they can work and network with fellow artists and creative professionals. This will be a place where traditional and new media artists can work side by side.

img_6636small.jpg

The Creative Treehouse is located in Bellevue, PA, about 7 minutes from Downtown Pittsburgh. It’s a small community with a lot of independent businesses like, Vivo, Affogato, 517521, just to name a few. You will also find that it has easy access to main routes, public transportation and public parking, so getting there is not a problem.

They will be hosting a kick off party at the end of June. You can find more details about it on their website as details become available. You don’t have to wait until then to become a member; just fill out an online application and they will contact you. If you wondering how much something like this will cost, you will be happy to know that it’s only a $25 monthly fee for 24 hour access to the space. There is also a growing list of member benefits listed on their website. So if you’re still not convinced this a great opportunity, that might change your mind. Plus, Bellevue is a great place to visit and live. Hope to see you there!
